About Yajurveda

The Yajurveda (यजुर्वेद) is the Veda of ritual formulas (yajus) used during Vedic ceremonies. It exists in two main forms: Shukla (White) Yajurveda and Krishna (Black) Yajurveda.

The Shukla Yajurveda contains the Vajasaneyi Samhita, with mantras and brahmanas separated. Its 40th chapter contains the famous Isha Upanishad, the only Upanishad embedded directly within a Samhita.

The Krishna Yajurveda contains the Taittiriya Samhita, which includes the Sri Rudram (Namakam and Chamakam) - the most important Shaivite hymn in the Vedas. The Yajurveda also contains famous Shanti Mantras like "Om Sahana Vavatu" and "Om Asato Ma Sadgamaya."
