Where Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa served as priest and had his spiritual experiences. One of the most important temples for understanding the Bengali devotional tradition and modern Hindu renaissance.

History

Built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni. Ramakrishna served as priest from 1856 and had profound mystical experiences here, including his famous vision of the Divine Mother. Swami Vivekananda visited as a young man.

🏛️ Architecture

Navaratna (nine-spired) style temple on the banks of the Hooghly river. The main temple houses Bhavatarini (Kali). 12 Shiva temples line the ghat. A Radha-Krishna temple is also in the complex.

Visiting Information

Open 6 AM–12:30 PM, 3 PM–8:30 PM. Located on the banks of the Hooghly in north Kolkata. Well connected by metro, bus, and ferry. Belur Math (Ramakrishna Mission HQ) across the river.
