Palani Murugan Temple

Palani Hills, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu

South India🦚 Subramanya

The most visited Muruga temple. One of the six Arupadai Veedu (sacred abodes). Muruga came here as Dhandayuthapani — a renunciate with only a staff — after losing the fruit-race to Ganesha.

History

Ancient temple. The idol is made of Navapashanam — an amalgam of nine poisonous herbs solidified into a divine form by the Siddha saint Bhogar. The Winch system carries devotees up the hill.

🏛️ Architecture
