Rockfort Ucchi Pillayar Temple

Ancient Ganesha temple perched atop the famous Rockfort โ€” a massive rock formation rising 83 meters above the city. One of the most iconic landmarks of Tamil Nadu.

History

The rock is over 3.8 billion years old โ€” one of the oldest in the world. Temple built by the Nayaks of Madurai. Legend says Vibhishana dropped the Ranganatha idol here while carrying it from Lanka.
