The highest of the 12 Jyotirlingas, part of the Char Dham pilgrimage. Legend says Shiva hid from the Pandavas here in the form of a bull, and his hump-shaped back remained as the lingam.
Built by the Pandavas and later restored by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Survived the devastating 2013 Uttarakhand floods when a boulder diverted the floodwaters around the temple.
Stone temple built with massive interlocking stone slabs without mortar. The conical stone structure has withstood centuries of harsh Himalayan weather and floods.
